"The government simply hasn't been following the research evidence when they have been making claims about the impact of implementing smokefree legislation," Professor Janet Hoek told TVNZ's Breakfast on 27 February.

The PHCC Briefing, Smokefree Laws: Reducing tobacco outlets will decrease crime, was the topic of the interview on TVNZ. Professor Hoek featured on Newstalk ZB and Newshub as well.

The Briefing looking at police data evidence on retail crime and ram raids was quoted on Morning Report in questions to Prime Minister Luxon on repealing the smokefree legislation. RNZ's Checkpoint also interviewed Professor Hoek about the Briefing showing that ram raids are decreasing, not increasing. It got a further airing on 28 Feb on TVNZ.
